Welcome to The Learning Connexion's student site.

Student loans and allowances

Following is a brief overview of the options StudyLink offers. Please see the Studylink website for further information.

Note: When you apply for either a loan or allowance StudyLink will need to know your Student ID Number. If your name was Bobby Green, your Student ID number would be GREEN, B (surname, first initial). Study Link will also want your study dates – contact us to find these out.

Student Loan

A Student Loan can help to finance your study. You will have to pay back the total amount of your loan.

To be eligible you must be a New Zealand or Australian citizen, a person born in the Cook Islands, Niue or Tokelau, a NZ Permanent Resident (holder of a residence permit), or a NZ refugee (Immigration NZ refugee programme).

For more information, see StudyLink's page about Student Loans.

Student Allowance

A Student Allowance is a weekly payment to help with your living costs while you study. You don't have to pay this back.

To be eligible you need to be a New Zealand or Australian citizen, a person born in the Cook Islands, Niue or Tokelau, a NZ Permanent Resident (holder of a residence permit), or a NZ refugee (Immigration NZ refugee programme).

For more information, see StudyLink's page about Student Allowances.

Limited Full-time Study

Limited Fulltime Study is part-time study but with full-time student entitlements. You need to be officially enrolled as a part time student. This allowance is for a full-time student wanting to switch to part-time for health or other genuine reasons outside their control and who needs to retain the Student Allowance/Student Loan Living costs in order to finish the course.

For more information, see StudyLink's page about Limited Full-time Study.

Internal Extensions

An internal extension is an extension granted by the TLC Academic Board. StudyLink does not extend your Student Allowance or Loan Living Costs for this time. Your Allowance will stop at the end date on your contract.

8 Day Withdrawal

No fees are owed to TLC if you cancel your enrolment within 8 days of your course start date (or for late enrolments, when the enrolment process is completed). Fees are not refunded unless you withdraw before 8 days. Any fees paid will be refunded to StudyLink.

Withdrawal & future restart

It may be possible for you to restart a course you have previously withdrawn from but this is not a given so please consider withdrawal carefully. There are also several conditions to meet before a restarting student is enrolled. Once enrolled fees already paid to TLC will go towards the future restart enrolment, however a $200 Administration fee and payment of the fees difference generally applies.

The above also applies if you have done part of your course or if you have previously enrolled without starting and you now wish to complete.
