Description:
Taming the computer is designed especially for students who are not confident using computers. The idea is to get you up and going and producing images or files which you can use in other classes, specifically the screen printing weekend class later in the term. (You can also do screen-printing in other printmaking classes - just ask your tutor).
It will be a friendly introduction to using the computer as a powerful tool for your art-making. It is aimed specifically at beginner students but students who want to go over the basics of the Mac computer and Photoshop or work more independently are welcome.
Content:
This class will cover:
* Basic file managemnt
* How to navigate a Macintosh computer
* Scanning, copying and downloading images
* Basic image manipulation in Photoshop
* With these technical computer basics you will create an image, or a series of images suitable for silk screen printing which can be used in either a screen-printing weekend class, or other printmaking classes.
Objectives:
* To provide instruction in basic computer skills
* To introduce the computer as a creative tool with applications to other art-making processes
Outcomes:
* You will have a basic knowledge of file management
* You will be able to navigate the computer room computers
* You will be able to scan, copy or download images
* You will be able to do some simple image manipulation in Photoshop
* You will be able to understand some of the possibilities available from incorporating a digital process into your art practice
* You will have an image or a series of images that you can later transfer to a silk screen in the printmaking room
