Description:
Ever wanted to make your own knife? Learn how to transform a design and a piece of spring steel into a functional knife for use in the kitchen. If you prefer to make a chisel for wood or stone carving then this is a possibility as well.
Content:
* Design your own knife - simple forms recommended to ensure completion within limited time frame
* Heating, beating, normalising, forming, surface finishing, hardening, tempering
* Handle making and attaching
* Finishing
Objectives:
* Develop safe and effective techniques for working hot metal
* Gain confidence using hand tools and heat
* Learn how to make your own tools
Outcomes:
* One functional knife
* Knowledge of basic metal working techniques
* Best safety practice
Required materials
Cost to student:
$20 payable to materials shop for gas and other supplies
