Expression and Gesture

Description:
Want to put expressions on the faces in your paintings? What about body language - how do you make sure the viewer gets the message you intend? Come to this interesting Saturday workshop where we explore these questions in depth with an actor. Not suitable for absolute beginners I'm sorry.

Content:
* Getting in the mood - adopting facial expressions and gestures ourselves and observing these in a mirror
* Observing and recording these expressions from others and the model
* Gesture warm ups with the model
* Confirming our observations by looking at books and at famous paintings

Objectives:
* To become more conscious of how the body and face reveal the emotions
* To be able to record these changes in such a way that they can be accessed for later reference

Outcomes:
* A clearer understanding of body language
* A clearer understanding of facial expression
* A record of how we recognise these changes so that the observations can be used later

Required materials

clearfile for lots of handouts
visual diary and pencils
white or brown paper
charcoal or black crayon for warm up drawings
shared lunch would be great

Cost to student:
Whatever it costs you to obtain what you don't have.
