Description
Explore or express your ideas through installation and/or performance art; art forms which can encompass the entire sensory field of the viewer. Create art for/about a specific object or material, environment, movement, human interaction, emotion, verb or set of words, and or collaboration. Themes could include: repetition, nostalgia, social or political comment, environment, movement.
Discover a variety of contemporary artists who work with performance, installation and collaboration and enjoy a space in which you can dialogue about these and your own work and ideas.
By the end of this class you should be able to see how and why these methods of creating could be relevant to your own creative practice and personal journey.

Content:
* What is performance, installation, collaboration?
* Taking an idea into these forms
* Dialogue around contemporary and historical artists
* Logistics and documentation

Objectives:
To explore some of your current creative ideas through the medium of performance and installation. To experience collaboration with other artists, whether directly through a joint art work or through assisting another artist with their vision. To experience and discuss historical and contemporary performance and installation artists. To try creating artwork which encompasses the entire sensory field of the viewer.

Outcomes:
Experience in filtering your ideas through an alternative medium. Awareness and experience of the processes involved in creating installation and performance art. Experience in collaborating with other artists. Knowledge of a range of contemporary and historical performance, installation and collaborative artists. Awareness of the logistical and documentational aspects of performance and installation. Ability to see why performance, collaboration and installation art can be of benefit to your artistic practice. Ability to see the benefit of exploring any idea through a different medium.

  • sketch book for use at start of class
  • digital camera - if you have one

Nothing specific, except the cost of any materials you choose to use in your work.
