Distance delivery students

Full-time DD students can attend up to five on-site sessions per week, equivalent to 2.5 days / 15 hours.

Part-time DD students can attend up to three on-site sessions per week, equivalent to 1.5 days / 9 hours.

Computing for Artists - Intermediate to Advanced

Description
The computer is a creative tool - suitable for whatever direction you're heading in!
Mix it up and learn how to turn your physical creations into a digital masterpiece.
Posters, flyers, books, business cards - the brief is your design.
If you need to refresh your skills or advance the ones you already have, this class can assist in all your computer related queries and support you to develop new and interesting ideas.

Content:
Content will depend on what the you wish to learn about.
Usually it will consist of sharing and critiquing examples of previous works, expanding on your existing ideas, working out what avenues you need to take to achieve your goals and what the best ways to present your final work will be.
Programmes available are:
Photoshop, Freehand, InDesign, Illustrator, Final Cut and DVD Authoring Software.

Objectives:
* Conceptually develop an exciting and self directed brief
* Keep the brief challenging yet simple enough to be achieved
* Learn all the necessary computer programmes to fulfil the brief
* Hone your own style in conjunction with the brief
* Manage your time effectively, to fulfil the brief in the time given
* Complete a finished body of work at the end of the term ready for presentation

Outcomes:
* Develop your own brief
* Conceptualise and push your creative thinking
* Use a range of computer design programmes
* Recognise which programmes to use to achieve different outcomes
* Manage your time efficiently to achieve your goals
* Learn good ways to present your work

Required materials

  • a memory stick would be an advantage in this class but is not essential
  • periodic printing of work will incur costs during the term
  • cd's for back up of work
