Description:
You will design an object of some kind using the computer, then using a system called Ponoko (check out www.ponoko.com) you will choose to make your objects from materials as diverse as cardboard, perspex and wood.
Ponoko will lasercut your design using your digital file and send your object back to you. This means you can mass produce objects cheaply and speedily to create artwork using multiples, or products you can easily sell. All you need is your imagination and a computer.
Some knowledge of computer graphics software would be an advantage but this class will also work for students who have never used one before.
Advanced design and video students are welcome to attend this class to complete independent projects.

* Idea development and research
* Basic Photoshop skills
* Basic vector drawing skills
* Uploading using Ponoko
* Refining the idea from the prototype
* Options for selling completed product online
Objectives:
* To explore the design process
* To learn basic vector drawing
* To work from a digital idea through to a real life product, developing an understanding of advantages and limitations of different materials
Outcomes:
* Development of some basic computer skills
* A basic understanding of the design process
* You will be able to take an idea and, using the computer, convert it into an object
* You will finish with a final product or art object
